ETF estimated candles vs actual trades: reading charts

Read actual and estimated ETF candles, choose 15m to monthly intervals, and check local times and currency conversions.

Identify the candle type first

Actual candles represent received ETF trading records. Purple-toned estimated candles represent estimated values during closed-market periods, with rises and falls distinguished in the legend. An estimated high or low does not establish that anyone traded at that price. The current monthly candle can combine actual records and closed-market estimates; its mixed label identifies that combination.

An interval is the time within one candle

The default is 15m; you can choose 1h, 4h, 1day or 1month. A 1h candle covers an hourly interval, while 1month groups a month. Increasing the interval combines shorter movements into fewer candles. The total period visible on screen is separate from the candle interval, and an unfinished current candle can change as new observations arrive.

Inspect, zoom and share with context

Point at or touch a candle to inspect its date and prices. Open, high, low and close belong to that candle's interval. Use a wheel or two fingers to zoom, drag to pan, and return to the full view when needed. Before sharing, check the ticker, interval and currency so the recipient can interpret the same context.

Local time and local currency are separate

Chart time follows the selected language and region. A US trading date can differ from your local calendar date around midnight. Non-dollar prices use a reference exchange rate updated once daily, with rates expressed per 1 USD. The converted amount can differ from a local exchange's traded price, a bank's buying or selling rate, or a payment including conversion fees.

Check when the displayed data was observed

Prices and chart history use records saved on the server. An estimate-aggregation notice can mean that actual history is available before estimated sections are ready. The usual roughly ten-second message is not a guaranteed deadline. Check update times and delay or pending labels; a missing section should not be read as a zero price or proof of a trading halt.
